Do you want to get to know your teacher better, create community with the other families in your class, and help make your classroom awesome? Then ROOM REP is the job for you! It doesn’t take that much time and can be done mostly from home at your convenience. And it’s fun!
Room Representatives (aka “Room Reps”) consist of a team of two or more parents per class, at least one of whom is Spanish-speaking. Room Reps:
Gather contact info and preferred communication methods for all families in the class to make sure no one is falling through the cracks and everyone is getting the information they need. This is the big one.
Work with the teacher to push out announcements and reminders for classroom-specific events like field trips, publishing parties, pajama days, performances, potlucks, art projects, etc.
Support the teacher with any specific classroom needs like supply wish lists, cleaning projects, folder stuffing, parent assistance in class, etc.
Collect cash for teacher gifts at the holidays and end of school year.
Help to organize teacher appreciation week activities (e.g., grade level-hosted potlucks) and end of year celebrations (e.g., picnics).
Meet with schoolwide Room Reps team three times a year.
(Optional) Organize snacks for the classroom, if desired (usually by creating a parent volunteer sign-up sheet).
